Fighting-game compilation crossovers invariably include a handful of characters that only have relevance to certain crowds. Such will undoubtedly be the case with Nintendo's Super Smash Bros. Brawl, which features a host of gaming icons, as well as few no-namers such as Pit from Kid Icarus or King Dedede of Kirby fame.
To remedy that situation, Nintendo has unveiled Masterpieces, a mode which packs SSBB with a number of Virtual Console demos featuring characters that will be brawling it out in the game. According to Super Smash Bros. Dojo--the game's official Web site--SSBB will include free trials for Ice Climber (NES, 1985), Super Mario Bros. (NES, 1985), The Legend of Zelda (NES, 1987), Kid Icarus (NES, 1987), Kirby's Adventure (NES, 1993), Super Metroid (SNES, 1994), and Star Fox 64 (N64, 1997), among as-yet-unannounced others.
Rather than downloading the demos through the Virtual Console, all will come packed in on the game disc. After the game's most recent delay, Super Smash Bros. Brawl is now currently expected to arrive March 9 exclusively on the Wii.
